Torn Clothing is unique clothing and accessories designed for the independent-minded woman. Each article is created with quality and styling that is designed to last longer than trend driven fashions. Natural fabrics and re-claimed textiles are used to create clothing that is earth friendly, comfortable and stylish, allowing the wearer to express their individuality. In addition to style, every design strives towards quality, sustainability and comfort.
Squamish B.C. based designer Cindy Neilson is the force behind Torn Clothing. Cindy has been in front of a sewing machine since she could sit on her mother’s lap while she sewed. She started designing costumes for theatre after she tried to learn about lighting but her high-school stagecraft teacher uncovered her sewing talents. She then went on to become a graduate of Kwantlen University College’s Fashion Design & Technology program in 2003, all the while designing and creating costumes for countless local theatre productions. She then worked for several years at Vancouver’s Blushing Designs. She founded Torn Clothing and started treeplanting in 2005. Cindy’s love of the outdoors influences her work in the design studio. When not in her studio, Cindy is sure to be found playing outdoors around Squamish.
